27 Oct 2009

PolyU and Nankai University jointly organized a "Summit on Transportation Logistics and Regional Economic Development" ("走向復蘇 - 交通物流與區域經濟發展" 高峰論壇) on 25 October 2009 at the Shenzhen Marco Polo Hotel.

The Summit brought together eminent academics and practitioners to discuss in details about how to cope with the opportunities and challenges arising from globalization and economic recovery after the financial tsunami.

Prof. John Liu, Director of C.Y. Tung ICMS, presented a keynote speech "Low Carbon Economy and Green Logistics" ("低碳經濟與綠色交通"), a subject of growing concern in the sector. Other influential speakers included Mr Ma Yongzhi (Associate Director of Shenzhen Transportation Committee), Prof. Liu Binglian (Nankai University), Dr Wang Guowen (China Develop Institute) and Mr Chen Shuzhi (Chairman of Shenzhen Prolto Supply Chain Management Co. Ltd).

The Summit received overwhelming response, and was considered as a good platform for views and experience exchange between academics and business in the areas of global shipping and logistics studies. Participants included logistics practitioners, research institute personnel, university students and the media.

Wide media coverage on the Summit was reported in the following days, including by Shenzhen Special Zone Daily, Shenzhen Evening News and Nanfang City News.
